This is the Hylian associated with Majora's Mask correct?
I'm making a shirt for my friend. It has Majora's mask on it and I'd like to put his name on it in the correct form of Hylian. Thanks in advance.

This is a lovely wallpaper and very helpful.

This version is actually associated with the Hylian Language Project, but the alphabet looks like the one used in Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, yes. The in game version though was/is just a one on one cipher to Japanese. I would be honoured though if you used this, if it looking like the alphabet is enough for you and your friend. :3

Oh my, so this is for real...Ok, just let me clear this out, is this a some kind of japanese alphabet (same rules, grammar, etc) or it can eventually be translated to english or something similar?

Umm, no. This version of the alphabet is for the Hylian Language Project. It's something I've been working on for years, and will have it's own grammar etc. The alphabet however can be used for Japanese or English, but it's part of an "actual" Hylian language. :3
I don't have much up yet because my life is pulling me like taffy but I do have some language lessons up if you check my main profile, or just go directly to the folder for the language work here: [link]

That's awesome! Hey, I've been a Legend of Zelda fan since I was little and have such a deep affinity for language, so if you want/need some help, jest ask because that sounds really fun!

Hey, thanks! And thanks for the offer.. I actually have a LOT more done than I have out right now though. It's just a matter of pruning, fine tuning, organizing and working on the lessons..and right now is a VERY busy time in my real life, hence the lack of any real updates to the language project right now. ^^;

The W is an actual letter in polish! :)
It is pronounced like w in english!

Oh I see what you mean! Wow it is similar...I didn't even know about that! I guess Hylian does have something in common with some earth alphabets after all! ^~

how would you write out link? would it be l - i - n - k or li - n - k ?

:iconsarinilli:

I guess it depends on the particular Hero.. and I can't really ask them. For the sake of it then I'd say single characters: l-i-n-k...just be careful with the i. Use the wrong one and it will sound like "lint" with a k instead of a t at the end. x3

No... no it's ok, I've just been so busy the last week that some questions are throwing me off.

As you can see in the image, there are two characters for "i"..the first one (that looks like a box with a lid) is a longer i, like in "sing" or "link", whereas the second one is a short i which sounds like "it" or "with".

You'll definitely want to check out the language lesson 1 once I can get it up, since it covers pronunciation and the like ^_^

whats De, Fa, He, Hi, (that symbol near the one that looks like H, the Y like shape & the beforementioned H symbol), Ka, Ku, Li, Lo, ect mean?

The Hylian Alphabet is half-syllabary. The syllable characters don't necessarily "mean" anything different, but can be used to shorten some words and used for names and places. for example, take the name Link. If you spell it with L-I-N-K it's considered a different name than if spelled with LI-N-K. Like Amy and Amie.

If you want an example as to why I decided to do this, (if you have it) turn on Ocarina of Time and go inside Kakariko, turn around and look at the sign. ^^

This is probably something I should explain in a journal post here on DA since my site isn't there right now to direct people to. ^^;

lon (or possibly lawn) is spelt with 2 characters so you can't learn full hylian but i love it anyways

"so you can't learn full hylian" <-- That is a very strange statement seeing as how my alphabet works with my own fan Hylian language...so yes actually, you can. o.

And I'd been toying with ficing the n/8 issue for a while. Obviously the way I had the two characters wasn't the best choice. >>

Haha you're welcome, just don't expect them ALL to make sense, most of what's actually shown in-game is really just nonsense since the alphabet didn't have a set meaning like in later games. ^^

Thanks for the heads up. I'll try it with TP though. This is still pretty neat, even if half the things I try to translate in some earlier games wind up being gibberish. ^^; It's all in good fun.
