This is something I've been thinking of doing for a while. Even though I am very busy working on the language as a whole, some words, phrases and concepts haven't really changed or are finished enough to share.

These lessons are to help teach people how to read, write, and even speak the Hylian language.

This first lesson is just a quick rundown on the basic pronunciation of the letters to help get everyone started off.

Ummmmm, first I'd just like to say that this is absolutely amazing. Second, I was wondering if I might be able to ask a question about translating English phrases into Hylian?

Go ahead and ask if you want- just so you know though, the vocabulary and sentence structure for Hylian will come later when I finally have the time to work on these lessons again (been so swamped with life and projects the last while @_@).

If it's about writing English in the Hylian alphabet, I can easily explain anything you're not clear on. ^_^

Yes, It's a question about writing. I just want to make sure I'm doing it right. When i translate words into Hylian, should I write based on the roman counterpart for the Hylian text? Or should it translate using the pronunciation?

Ok so you're talking how to properly write English. It's sort of a combination of both. For the most part you can just get away with writing things letter-for-letter and use the singular characters. There are some important exceptions to this however, namely with the two different "i" characters. Those are specifically pronunciation oriented and important to remember when writing in English. The y can be more diverse when used for English, just remember that if it was pronounced like a Hylia word, for example, "diverse" would be spelled "dyvers" to get the right sounds.

The last one that I need to point out is entirely pronunciation based since Hylian has no letter x. For any words with x, just replace it with "ks" to get the sound. It will look a little strange when transliterating back into the Roman alphabet but that's where you just replace the correct letter again. In a way it's kind of similar to how writing English in Japanese Katakana works.

I hope that helps! Oh, and the syllable characters when used in English work the same- if it's a personal or character name or such, just pick your spelling and stick with it, but words with the syllable combinations can be written with or without them. :3

Nope, there's not. There's a trick to substituting it for English, you use "ks" instead. I'll probably do some sub-lessons on how to use Hylian for English properly later on. :3
And thanks! I still have a long way to go getting these lessons out and there'll be a lot to come. Hopefully I can get them worked on soon. Life's been keeping me so busy that it's hard to do everything at once. ^^;

Looks like I'm not the only person that uses IPA when making other writing systems! Props!

IPA saves SO much confusion down the line. I didn't used to use it, and look back at my past work now and think...how did I ever figure? Haha
