Skyward Sword Ancient Hylian - Font by Sarinilli Skyward Sword Ancient Hylian - Font by Sarinilli
July 08 2014: Here we go again with fixes and updates... sorry guys, I keep doing this to you! I went and fixed some issues in ALL my fonts. Enjoy!

"Alphabet existing from the reign of the goddess Hylia. It can be seen in various locations such as in Skyloft and the pedestal of the Goddess’ Sword where it is enshrined. This ancient text can not be translated."

...Until now!

It's finally here! The complete Skyward Sword Hylian Alphabet, and as a font to boot!

All characters are assigned accordingly, even J, Q and X which had previously eluded readability.

In light of Hyrule Historia claiming that the alphabet was "too ancient to translate", the small text in the Lanayru images in fact were hiding the full alphabet, right under our noses.

--- Here's an image showing how to see the alphabet in game:… ---

This is free for personall use. It is also free to upload elsewhere so long as credit for the font creation is given. A link back would be nice, too. ;3

If you want to read my story about how this started, and ended... my blog post is here:…

Info & FAQS:

You'll need to unzip the archive before you can install the font. I recommend using 7-Zip:
* Font installation on windows: Drag & drop the font file into the C:WINDOWSFonts folder, or double click to open the font file and click the "install" button.
* Font installation on a mac: place the font file in the Home Folder > Library > Font Folder

Q: Some of the letters are using the same character, is it supposed to be this way?
A: Yes. The alphabet used throughout the game has some of the characters doubling as more than one letter. The doubled ones are supposed to be that way, and are as follows:
D & W - E & K - G & Q - I & X - O & Z - P & T

Update: 11:30am MST on 3 Jan 2012:
Anyone who had trouble with the font not showing up in certain programs should redownload the zip file. I got help from a friend and found out that apparently the first upload got broken somehow. Go figure. SO sorry for the trouble! It should work just fine now for everyone.

You will need an unzipping tool like 7zip or WinRar to open the archive.

The news of this font has made it from my little hidey hole over on Zelda Universe…, all the way to sites like Kotaku… , ScrewAttack… , and even IGN's UK site… .

You guys have no idea how shocked and happy I am to see this spread so quickly. Thank you all. ♥

Please forgive me if I don't reply to every comment or thank everyone who favourites this. I am reading the messages, but it's a bit overwhelming to try and keep up with. Thanks go out to everyone who views, favs, downloads and comments. ♥

Update! Feb. 13th 2012:'s "6 Pop Culture Mysteries That Were Solved by Fans" has listed my work and font here as number 4. Thanks guys! Article here:…

I can't seem to be able to see the download link on the right. I know it's supposed to be between "More from Sarinilli" and the fav button, but for some reason it's not there. Did you remove it ?

Oh no... it looks like I accidentally should be working again. So sorry about that!

First off, let me thank you so much for all the hard work put into this.

However I seem to have a problem. Spaces? They don't work. They come out as squares with numbers in them. Is that intentional (as there is no spacing in the text itself) or an error?

Like when you hit the space bar it's giving you weird characters instead of spaces? That...shouldn't be happening. Can you show me an example? o.o

The writing in question in a normal font.…

And here it is in SS Ancient Hylian.…

Ok that's weird, and shouldn't be happening... it's not the first time I've seen weird errors crop up for no apparent reason; did you have any trouble unpacking or installing it?

There's a possibility that when I was reuploading all the fonts recently there was a minor error, so I've taken the liberty to reupload it again. It's weird because you would think if it was a corrupt file it wouldn't have unpacked, but it could have been in packing them all as well; it's happened before with something else. So could you redownload and reinstall it and let me know if it was that or if it's still showing the weird boxes?
*crosses fingers* I hope it works this time~

OH, and so you know, the commas showing up as default is purely because I ONLY made the font to be the alphabet it's self; since it doesn't have any punctuation, I just didn't include them. Though I realize now that it might be a little weird if you're translating full texts, it's at least as simple as taking out the commas and punctuation that doesn't exist in this alphabet.
If you want a version that does have punctuation though you can always give my language adapted alphabet a try. ^~

There was no problem installing it at all any of these times.

When I redownloaded the font... and the boxes lingers I completely wiped the font and redownloaded it... and again, spacing is still off. I'm suspect that the issue is something on my end, but what I don't know. I will be able to manually take out the boxes with picture editing but this is a bizarre issue here.

I've actually been writing with the font. I run a blog featuring the Golden Goddesses themselves and they use the old text sometimes as a representative of their age. But I'll keep that tip in mind when writing.
